[Industry Type 1] Testing of wire harnesses for automobiles

Concept of Testing & Inspection

Three main types of automobile wire harnesses

1. Main harness

The main harness of an automobile is the largest and most complex harness. It has more than 3,000 points for testing. Wiring testing and resistance testing are conducted. In addition, electrical checks of diodes, capacitors, etc., and mounting checks of retainers, clamps, etc., must be performed in a short time.

2. Sub Harness

The sub harness is a harness that branches off from the main harness. It is connected to headlights, airbags, instrument panels, etc. Depending on the application and mounting material (narrow-pitch connectors), high-voltage testing is required, and momentary disconnection testing is also conducted to test continuity under vibration.

3.Harness cables for EV (Electric Vehicle)

EV cables and harnesses are used in electric vehicles to safely utilize large amounts of electric power. It has a relatively small number of points and is featured by thick wires and orange-colored insulation. It is used to connect motors, batteries, PDUs (junction boxes), external power supply units, etc. High voltage testing is required to confirm that there is no discharge phenomenon and insulation.
