What is cable harness testing?

The term "harness testing" used on this website by NAC CORPORATION means electrical testing of harnesses.

Harness testing can be categorized into electrical testing, visual inspection, tensile testing, etc. We refer to electrical testing of wiring harnesses as "harness testing. In "harness testing," cables, harnesses, and other tested items are examined to determine whether they meet electrical standards.




Five Items of Harness Testing

Harness testing is divided into five different categories. Test items are determined and selected as needed. By correctly understanding each test item and determining the criteria, it is possible to efficiently conduct high-quality and optimal testing. The following is an explanation of each test item.

Wiring Testing

In harness testing, wiring testing, continuity testing, and open short testing are synonymous. In wiring testing, the test target is compared to the wiring of a good cable and checked for short/open/miswires/excess circuits. All testing terminals are scanned and checked in a short time. Set an appropriate value for the wiring judgment value that serves as the threshold value.



Resistance Testing

It is a test to measure and judge the resistance between points. 4-wire low-resistance measurement model is also available for precise testing from 0.01Ω.


Momentary Disconnection Testing

In harness testing, momentary disconnection testing and loose contact testing are synonymous.In connector testing, it is also called the contact disturbance testing. The momentary disconnection testing detects and determines momentary disconnections that occur when stresses such as shock, vibration, bending, and tension are applied. There are also high-level models that can detect 0.1μsec. disconnections.


Dielectric Withstand Testing

In harness testing, withstand voltage testing, Dielectric Withstand Testing, and insulation withstand testing are synonymous. It is a test to apply high voltage and judge whether there is any discharge between insulated conductors. It monitors discharge phenomena in short cycles of µsec level. Both AC and DC withstand voltage tests are performed, but DC tests are required for long cables because of the influence of capacitive reactance.


Insulation Resistance Testing

Insulation resistance testing and insulation testing are synonymous in harness testing. It is a test to measure the resistance between insulated conductors by applying a high voltage. There are two judgment types. [Measurement type] Insulation resistance is measured and judged at the end of the test time. [Monitoring type] Insulation resistance is measured during the test and judged as passed when it exceeds the specified value.
